Here's what students in externships have said about their experiences:
"I would strongly recommend a field placement at UIHC for anyone interested in transactional law. This field placement gave me exposure to a number of diverse areas of law, including employment and labor law, while also allowing me to see the inner workings of a general counsel’s office. Additionally, for anyone heading to a law firm after graduation, this field placement provides unique insight into the 'client side' of legal practice."
-- Lauren Arndorfer, Class of 2017, Extern for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Office of the VP for Legal Affairs.
"Working in the Iowa Attorney General’s Office within the Licensing and Administrative Law Division exposed me to many different areas of law with widely varying legal issues. My research skills improved tremendously, I gained experience in drafting actual motions and briefs, and attended numerous agency board meetings. Every day can be a surprise, such as while attending a Board of Education meeting, the Lt. Governor came to discuss their agenda and I observed the complex dynamic of politics and the law clashing firsthand. The learning opportunities are seemingly endless."
--Jason Landow, Class of 2018, Extern for the Iowa Attorney General Licensing and Administrative Law Division. See Jason's picture in the Des Moines Register here.
"I cannot overstate the value of the field placement program to my development as a law student and future attorney. The opportunity to prepare real briefs, and even argue before the Iowa Supreme Court concerning a real criminal case provided education, preparation, and an opportunity to build my resume in a way no classroom environment could ever emulate."
--Corey Stone, Class of 2018, Extern for the Iowa Appellate Defender Office. See Corey's oral argument before the Iowa Supreme Court here.
